We backfill smaller stumps with grindings and leave any remaining mulch on-site for garden use.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are the key things customers ask us about stump grinding — from costs and access issues to how we handle underground services and what happens after the stump is removed.

Can I plant in the same spot?

Yes it is possible. Sometimes the stump may need to be ground down deeper than usual, which may affect the price. Please tell us your requirements when requesting a quote.

How much will it cost?

Prices for stump grinding start at $300 Incl. Our charge schedule is based on the size and type of stump to be removed, difficulty, accessibility, surroundings, terrain, soil rock content and other factors.

Is digging cheaper?

This is not true. Even the smallest of stumps are harder than they look to dig out, even with a large excavator. If you do manage to dig it out you are left with a large root plate that will need to be taken to landfill. Cartage and dumping fees can be expensive.

How deep do you grind?

150mm below ground is industry standard, which is fine for re-seeding lawn etc. We can grind down as far as 500mm. Please let us know when requesting a quote if a deeper grind is required.

Underground services near stump?

We recommend calling a service locator to mark underground services, if you have a feeling they may be compromised. The cost is approximately $180 + GST. We will advise if this is necessary at the quoting stage.

Difficult access stumps?

Of course! Tree King can grind any stump, anywhere! We are experts in tight access stump removal.

Remove bamboo roots?

Our stump grinders are ideally suited for bamboo root removal. Read more on bamboo removal.

What happens to the grindings?

Small stumps can have the grindings back-filled into the hole. Excess grindings can be tossed in and around gardens as mulch. We do not remove excess stump grindings from site.
