DEAD TREE REMOVAL SERVICES  AUCKLAND

Recent Auckland storms have caused many trees to come down across Auckland’s North shore.

Tree Kings emergency arborists have been kept extremely busy clearing trees off houses, cars and access ways.

During this time we noticed a trend.  Over 90% of our call outs were to dead trees and dead branches most of which would have been easily identified as dead even by someone without any arboricultural knowledge.

SO WHY DO TREES DIE?

  • Prolonged Drought- Not enough water being pulled by the roots to be stored as carbohydrates which stops the tree performing photosynthesis.
  • Excessive drainage- Not enough water for the roots to collect for example trees on a steep slope.
  • Prolonged Rain- The ground and roots become saturated and are unable to get oxygen for root respiration.
  • Poor drainage- Too much water that the roots become saturated.
  • Compacted soil- The ground becomes hard to penetrate with the minerals and nutrients the roots need. The majority of the roots that collect these minerals are in the top 300mm of soil.
  • Root damage through excavations- Damage to roots prevents the uptake of nutrients and minerals.  It can also affect tree stability and gives an entry point for fungal infection.
  • Tree diseases- There are many diseases that trees can catch.  These can be caused by spores transported by foot like kauri dieback, insects such as the beetle that causes Dutch Elm disease and even by the wind for example myrtle rust.
  • Lack of nutrients- Sometimes the quality of the soil will be bad and the tree cannot get enough nutrients from its roots.
  • Human activity- Trees can be poisoned on purpose or by mistake by the use of herbicides.  This causes the leaves to struggle to pull water from the ground and reduces photosynthesis.

SO WHY DO TREES BLOW OVER?

There are a couple of reasons why dead trees blow over easier.  As you can see from the above reasons of why trees die the majority of the causes affect the roots.  The roots not only collect the nutrients but help anchor the tree into the ground.  If the tree dies the roots die with it and the anchor system is extremely compromised.

HIGH WINDS

In a strong wind the standing tree acts as a large sail and the constant moving back and forth slowly weakens the roots until one day they break.  You can think of it like bending a stick back and forth. It doesn’t take long before it snaps.  It may take years of this movement before the tree fails but there is no way to judge this until it is too late.

EXCESSIVE RAIN

Generally stormy weather also brings rain.  Excessive rain saturates the ground weakening the base the anchor roots have to attach too.  Some soils drain better than others the same as some species handle wet ground better than others.  Excessively wet ground combined with a weakened root system caused by a dead tree is a dangerous combination.

SO WHAT CAN I DO?

The longer you leave your dead trees the more dangerous they become and the more dangerous and sometimes costly they become for us to deal with.  We recommend contacting one of our Auckland arborists if you notice a tree in decline as quite often through pruning, mulching or other techniques we may be able to save the tree.

If this is not possible we recommend all dead or dying trees to be removed within 1 year of the first signs of decline.  Do not worry though if you have had dead trees standing for years as Tree Kings arborists have the skills to deal to these safely and efficiently.

After calling in one of our certified arborists to deal with the tree on your property you will be left with a stump. Sometimes this stump can include all the root ball that has been pulled up from the ground. The only way to efficiently deal with this is to get Tree Kings stump removal team in to grind this away for you. Check out our blog on stump removal here.

Right from the beginning, the team at Tree King provided me with fantastic and confident service. I have a rental in Auckland and needed a large hedge trimmed. I could not meet them on-site as I no longer reside in the area. I found the service outstanding, with excellent communication throughout the quoting and finishing of the job. If you have a rental and need a team you can rely on, then Tree King is your people and very trustworthy.I recommend them to anyone. I will be using this company again. They know what they are doing and have excellent prices. Thank you.

Tree King are our guys for any arborist work. The trees on our property are remnants of protected bush requiring precision and knowledge. Luke and the team are always professional and they have worked closely with the council to ensure the integrity of the trees are maintained.

Brilliant company to deal with. The team cut down a huge oak tree for us which had a good audience watching from the local café, then a big stump grind and the job was done, 2 days hard work completed from the team. We are very happy with the job you did for us and you are such a professional company to deal with. Thanks for everything.

Luke and the team were fantastic and were very professional. They gave a thorough written quote, went over and above to achieve what was agreed, and the boys did a fantastic job. They checked during and after to make sure we were happy with the work. I would certainly use their services again, and highly recommend them all!

Very professional attitude to the business of trees. Quotation process, speed of arrival, and quality of the work were superb and well above the standard of other tradies we've dealt with. And what a great bunch of friendly guys doing the job. Totally loved their work ethic and ability to work in rough weather. Cute to serve them coffees on my deck - they so deserved them!

Tree King were fabulous, they were easy to deal with on the phone. Came round to scope job and provide us a quote very quickly. They kept us updated constantly on expectation of timing for job completion and did the job much more quickly than originally anticipated. Staff all very friendly and helpful, and left the property very tidy. We couldn't ask for anything more.

Luke, and his team are amazing, coming and removing two trees from my property and then grinding the stumps. I was really impressed. Great people to engage with, the lead of the team that came was brilliant checking with me what I needed and generally just making sure everything was done really well. He ensured that safety measures were in place, and that no other plant on my property was impacted. The professional way they went about the work, and these guys were true pleasure to watch as they clearly enjoyed their work. As an Executive Coach I watched with admiration at... the way they communicated and coached each other throughout the job. The site was left immaculate, and they cleaned everything from the driveway. It was as if the trees had never been there. Our job was a relatively small one, but all I can say is I’m glad I engaged Tree King, because from the time I contacted them, they assessed my job, gave me a very reasonable quote there were no surprises for me. They managed my expectations but exceeded them in delivery. Every step of the way this team was superb, and I recommend them completelyread more
