CAREERS
DO YOU WANT TO WORK SOMEWHERE
DIFFERENT FROM THE REST?
EXPERIENCED CLIMBING ARBORIST – NORTH SHORE & WARKWORTH YARDS
We know there’s a worldwide shortage of arborists and that you can take your pick of which
company you want to work for. Our goal is that your first pick is us
WHAT WE BELIEVE
1) People are the most important part of arboriculture
2) The occupation of “arborist” should be viable as a life-long career, not a stepping stone on your path to operation management or small business ownership
3) Certain things need to change for this to become a reality and this is our mission

HOW ARE WE DOING IT?
Tree King are a key part of ongoing academic research addressing the skills shortage we see in the arboriculture industry. We are aware that certain aspects of the job seem to be pushing people into self-employment or out of the industry completely.
As a career, arboriculture has a lot going for it such as working outside, overcoming challenges as a self-directed team and the opportunity to have a lasting, positive impact on the urban forest. No two days are the same and you’ll never need the gym again.
Unfortunately, these kind of things tend to be overshadowed by negatives such as long, inflexible hours, low pay, lack of career progression, lack of autonomy, egotistical managers and of course the fact that your body is likely to be thoroughly worn out by your mid-thirties.
The good news is that there are solutions to all of this and all it will take is a few of us working together to find sustainable solutions (rather than simply putting up with the problems until you can execute your exit strategy).

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOUR JOB?
It means this is not the place to come if your life goal is to “get-off-the-tools”.
Arboriculture is a physical job and all of our staff including management spend time working as part of our crews. A large part of your job will be climbing trees and doing what you enjoy. Our crew leaders are not necessarily our best climbers which helps take the pressure off you. Depending on your experience there is the chance to split your climbing role with another role such as quoting or the training of staff. We are constantly looking at helping our staff upskill and widen their knowledge.
We hold fortnightly brainstorming meetings, giving you an active role in setting the direction of the company. You also have the option of a 4-Day week.
Flexibility is key! No two people are the same so there’s no one-size-fits-all job description to put in here. If you have certain requirements to make this role work for you then we would love to hear them! This is how change happens.
